SURFERS Jordan Liackman (Caves Beach, NSW) and Charli Hurst (Port Kembla, NSW) pocketed a unique prize in Australian junior surfing that will provide a massive boost to their future surfing ability and competitive aspiration courtesy of nib.

Both won the under-16 divisions of the Sanbah Cadet Cup presented by The University of Newcastle at Merewether beach today.

They were awarded a two-day surf camp to be held at Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre at Casuarina Beach on the NSW far north coast in the Tweed Shire.

nib will cover expenses associated with participation in the surf camp – including air travel, accommodation at the facility, meals and coaching fees for the two winners and their parents.

Fifteen-year-old Charli Hurst who surfs for Port Kembla boardriders, went one better than her effort at the same event last year where she was runner-up.

“I’m pretty happy, there were some good waves. The girls were all ripping so it was a really hard final,” she said.

“I’m really excited about the HPC prize from nib and I can’t wait to get up there. I’ve been there before for camps but not like this,” she said.

Jordan Liackman said he was super stoked to win the under boy’s 16s.

“I’ve training pretty hard coming up to the event. I won the trials for it so I was super stoked to come in as top seed and take the win.

Super tricky conditions and super grindy at the end and it was close but I’m happy to get the win.

“I’m really keen to get up to the HPC and it will be such a good experience,” he said.
