Wildcards dealt at Burton Automotive Wildcard Trials 

THIRTY surfers contested the Burton Automotive Wildcard Trials at Birubi Beach in the Port Stephens Local Government Area on Saturday 17 February.  

On offer to winners of each age division (Open Mens, U/16 Boys, U/14 Boys, U/16 Girls) were free wildcard entries into the Sanbah Cadet Cup supported by Ocean and Earth at South Bar Beach slotted for Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March, while the Open division catapulted the winner into the seeded round of the WSL QS 5000 Burton Automotive Pro at Merewether from March 11- March 17. 

The second event on the 2024 Surfest calendar saw clean 2-2.5ft waves fanned by a light nor-easter in a total of 15 heats across the competition. 

Noah Hartney (Killcare, NSW) posted both the day’s highest heat score (13.00), and the biggest single wave score (7.67). 

Mia McMahon (Norah Head, NSW) took out the U/16 girls final, while Kade Kelly (Newcastle) won the U/14 boys. Manning Gregory (Merewether, NSW) won the Open Mens.
