Surfest and Newcastle City Council have been planning events that add value to the Surfest Festival in February. The inaugural ‘Walk the Surf’ promotion arose out of the effect the Bathers Way has had on the coastline. This amazing infrastructure has enlivened the coast and brought many more Novocastrians to the beach.
Along the Bathers Way are our important Surf Life Savings Clubs. Many Novocastrians would not be aware of the history and activities of these clubs. The SLSC are excited about the promotion. They have planned activities that will engage not only the many thousands of walkers who pass them by each day but they want to show tourists and locals and visiting competitors and their families some of their history and activities.
A number of Not for Profit community groups like the Surfrider Foundation (Hunter) and Trees – Newcastle are participating in the activities. There will be live music and activities for all the family.
The ‘Walk the Surf’ activities from February 20 to 22 are a genuine community weekend that will coincide with Surfest’s major weekend.
