Evolution Business Advisers has previously sponsored the SurfAid Cup for the past two years and raised over $120,000 for the not-for-profit humanitarian organisation. In 2018, that demonstrated fundraising ability will be focused on a not-for-profit local charity doing incredible work right here in the Hunter. The corporate tag-team style surfing event means that local businesses can ride the waves for a local charity that’s making big waves in providing funds for medical research into brain cancer treatment and cure.
Twenty local business teams comprised of four surfers will battle it out on the final friday of the Surfest for the inaugural Evolution Business Advisers Charity Cup.Each team will undertake fundraising to help achieve an overall target donation of $100,000 to the Mark Hughes Foundation
Each business team will consist of three staff or business associates and one wildcard surfer that the team may nominate. Former two-time surfing world champion Tom Carroll will support the event by being the wild card for the team that raises the most funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF).
The (MHF) is a not- for-profit organisation formed in Newcastle by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Mark’s diagnosis with brain cancer in 2013. Mark is a well known and highly respected former Newcastle Knights Rugby League player, business and community identity who is undergoing treatment to fight brain cancer. The Mark Hughes Foundation has been formed to raise much needed funds to promote research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients (children and adults) and their families within the community.
Mark said he was incredibly pleased to have this opportunity to link with Surfest.
“Surfest is such an iconic event in Newcastle each year and we are proud to have MHF as part of this year’s corporate event. The Evolution Charity Cup give local businesses the chance to have some fun in the waves whilst supporting our local charity.
“With a significant amount of money that the organisers are looking to raise, it will be a huge boost in our efforts in finding answers to brain cancer. I look forward to seeing a big crowd there at Dixon Park Friday 23 February to support the Evolution Charity Cup and MHF,” Mr Hughes said.
Surfest organiser Warren Smith said that Surfest has always go behind local charities, and the MHF is doing important wotk in the community.
“Many Australians have had their life impacted by cancer and it’s incredibly important that research continue. Two icons of Newcastle – Surfest and Mark Hughes – are coming together with support from Evolution Business Advisers to have a great day in the water and raise money.”
Evolution Director Darren Glover says the Evolution Corporate Charity Cup is an opportunity for combining business and pleasure with the added bonus of supporting a very worthwhile cause.
“We’ve been blown away by the support of Newcastle businesses over the last two years and we’re excited to now be directing those funds locally to the Mark Hughes Foundation. This city loves its sport and has a generous spirit, so we see the event as a perfect fit between business, sport and charity,” Mr Glover said.
The event will take place at Dixon Park on Friday 23 February 2018. Company registration for the event is $400 which includes an official event t-shirt, lunch, prizes and an after party at Dixon Park Surf Club.
