Newcastle, NSW, Australia, Friday 7 February 2014.
Now in it’s 5th year, Hunter Business Boardriders (HBB) is proud once again to present the 2014 Shaw Gidley Surfest Charity Breakfast. Held on Friday February 21 at Surfhouse, Merewether Beach and starting from 7am, this year’s event features a unique audience with one of surfing’s pioneers of surfboard design, lifestyle and culture. Keynote speaker and presenter at this year’s breakfast is Bob McTavish, recently voted in the top ten of Surfing’s Most Influential People.
This year’s event is a very special one for HBB and our members. Historically, the money raised at the breakfast has gone to Surfaid to assist them to continue their amazing humanitarian efforts in the Indonesian archipelago. With the successful introduction of the Surfaid Corporate Cup in 2013, Surfaid are now the very grateful recipients of an even larger sum from those fundraising efforts and will again run the Corporate Cup event on the same day as the breakfast.
In December 2013, the Contest Director of Surfest, Mr Warren Smith, revealed to the HBB event team that the Pro Junior event was unlikely to run. Corporate sponsorship wasn’t forthcoming from the business community and he needed some support. A short discussion and some quick maths sums later, the HBB event team agreed that this is precisely why HBB exists – To use business networks and events to raise money and awareness for surf related projects, charities and organisations.
So, it is with enormous pride that we reveal the recipient of the proceeds of the 2014 Shaw Gidley Surfest Charity Breakfast is the 150 plus junior male and female competitors from across Australia and the world in this years’ Surfest Pro Junior event. By ensuring the running of this event, HBB and every contributor to the breakfast is in fact a major sponsor and responsible for the continuation of junior surfing at international levels in Newcastle.
If you’ve attended this unique business event in the past you’ll know it sells out quickly and the opportunity to walk away with some amazing raffle and auction prizes is part of the appeal. This year, the event has been blessed with some amazing prizes including a brand new 3P surfboard, Surf photography, coaching and accommodation prizes, surf wear packs, helicopter joy flight and the coolest prize – a week for two at the Kommune Bali, home of WCT tour event, The Oakley Pro at Keramas.
Tickets for the event are $80 with all proceeds going to support the 2014 Surfest Pro Junior.
Seats are limited and this event sells out in days so get your table together and get to the event for the coolest business breakfast on the calendar.
