The 2018 World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Tour kicks off in Newcastle, NSW with the inaugural The James Bros. Longboard Classic. The event will be a WSL men’s and women’s LQS 1000. Some of the best international male and female longboard surfers will compete on Merewether beach on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 13 and 14, 2018.
The James Bros are Peter, Harry and George James who own and operate three of the most successful food and dining businesses in Newcastle.
The brothers said on Instagram, ‘My brothers are my best friends. Always looking out for each other and always growing stronger every single day. Always there for each other when in need. Today we all become a major sponsor at Surfest, a huge Newcastle surfing event. Can’t wait to see our business names, @table1espresso, @harrysjoint and @bluedoornewcastle, all over Merewether beach and on the backs of the best surfers in the world.’
Surfest organiser Warren Smith said, ‘It is great to see professional longboard surfing on Merewether beach again with The James Bros Longboard Classic, a WSL LQS 1000 men’s and women’s competition. We hope to see the best younger long boarders going around competing for valuable WSL LQS points. The James Bros Longboard Classic will kick start the points chase for a lot of Australian surfers and is a very welcome addition to the WSL Longboard World Tour.’
Smith said, ‘Pete, Harry and George James have been long-term and generous supporters of Surfest and the surfing community in Newcastle. Their dynamic and determined approach to business and customer service is highly commendable as they take this step up to a full sponsorship of a WSL event. We thank them and look forward to putting on a great event on Merewether beach.’
