A Belmont Baker wins longboard classic

MORE than 20 competitors lined up in the 2010 Burton Toyota Surfest Longboard Classic.

Conditions were far from ideal, with wind affecting the Merewether break and occasional blue bottles offering competitors additional challenge.

Lat year's winner of the Open Division, Matt Rawson, was edged out from making it two in a row by just one point. Shane Baker pocketed a $200 cheque for his winning performance.

In the over-50s, David O'Leary was cheered on by his parents and he too claimed a one point victory over Chris Judd. David also won $200. O'Leary surfed a total of eight times as a contestant in both divisions.

Results:

Open Division:
1, Shane Baker: 47.5 (Belmont, NSW)
2. Matt Rawson 46.5 (Redhead, NSW)
3. David O'Leary 30.5 (Merewether, NSW)

Over 50s Division
1. David O'Leary 36 (Merewether, NSW)
2. Chris Judd 35 (Hamilton South, NSW)
3. Glen Smith 27 (Newcastle)
