Swell training for Callaghan College students Newcastle, February 10, 2010.
Swell training for Callaghan College students
MORE than 100 students from Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus will undertake work placement assessments at the Burton Toyota Surfest.
Most of the 112 students who will be involved are undertaking vocational education and training (VET) studies at the college.
Relieving campus principal Allen Littlewood says Surfest provides the single biggest event that the college works with and helps ensure students can meet stringent assessment requirements.
"I don't think there's anything like this large scale, centralised experience for VET students in New South Wales," Mr Littlewood said.
"Because Surfest stretches over almost a fortnight, it provides an ideal opportunity for our students to put their skills and knowledge into practice in a busy environment."
The learning initiative between Callaghan and Surfest - now in its third year - sees involvement from students from learning areas including business services, retail, catering, media, construction, and sport, lifestyle and recreation.
The Burton Toyota Surfest gets underway at Merewether beach on March 2 and runs until March 14. Back to news items
