Matt Banting, the exciting Port Macquarie/NSW 20-year-old took victory at the 6-Star ASP Qualifying Series Burton Toyota Pro

Matt Banting, the exciting Port Macquarie/NSW 20-year-old took an excellent victory at the 6-Star ASP Qualifying Series Burton Toyota Pro in Newcastle Australia. Banting defeated veteran Australian surfer Nathan Hedge in the final.
Ten minutes into the final Banting posted a decisive 9.33 excellent ride to take the lead and later backed it up with another excellent 9.03 to take a comprehensive win, scoreline 18.36 to Hedge on 14.57.

It was Banting’s second career ASP 6-Star victory and the win makes for an outstanding start to his 2014 season where he will try and qualify for the elite Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour.

Headlining Newcastle Surfest are Gold Coast duo Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast, QLD/AUS), 2012 ASP World Champion and reigning Burton Toyota Pro champion and 5 x ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (Gold Coast, QLD/AUS).
