Surfest proudly welcomes humanitarian aid organisation SurfAid back for another surf competition to raise funds for SurfAid. The Evolution SurfAid Cup Newcastle will be held at Dixon Park, Newcastle NSW on Friday 24 February 2017.
For the second year, local Newcastle company Evolution Business and Personal Advisers will partner with SurfAid to bring Newcastle surfers together to give back – to save lives.
Darren Glover of Evolution is a strong supporter of SurfAid. Darren said, “It’s important to us as a business because we like to give back. There are a lot of people in our business who enjoy the surf and the beach and in particular in areas like Indonesia where you’ve got underprivileged women and children. We think it’s a fantastic cause.”
Jessie Rudd – SurfAid’s Development Coordinator and this year’s event manager said, “These local partnerships with Surfest and Evolution are integral to SurfAid’s success. We are honoured to return to Newcastle and connect with our Central Coast supporters, and share how their fundraising saves lives in some of the most remote and vulnerable communities in Indonesia.
Surf culture runs deep in Newcastle, and SurfAid is enormously grateful to the community for bringing passion and enthusiasm to the SurfAid Cups year after year. This is SurfAid’s 6th year hosting the event in Newcastle, and the money raised is having a significant impact on providing clean water, access to basic health care, and improved nutrition in some of the most remote and vulnerable communities in Indonesia.”
Dr. Dave Jenkins, the Founder of SurfAid, will be joining the Evolution SurfAid Cup from Indonesia to give his personal thanks to the local community, and to share stories from the field.
“Many of the teams participating have done so since the start of the event and SurfAid is enormously grateful to all the teams for their outstanding effort in raising funds every year. We pride ourselves on providing simple, yet effective solutions to complex problems. The funds raised at the Evolution SurfAid Cup will provide clean water, access to basic health care and improved nutrition to some of the world’s most vulnerable people -people living near iconic surf destinations. Surfers can and do make a real difference and give back to the places they love,” said SurfAid Founder, Dr. Dave Jenkins.
Last year, the Evolution SurfAid Cup Newcastle raised over $81,000 – enough to fund clean water for 8 villages. That is a life changing result, and SurfAid – with the help of their supporters in Newcastle – plans to do it again in 2017!
Surfing alongside pro and legend surfers at the Evolution SurfAid Cup Newcastle 2017 will be local Newcastle businesses KCE, Bilbie Dan Solicitors, PKF Wealth, Sanbah Surf Shop, Shaw Gidley, 360 Water, EJE, Evolution, ARTC, and Jayco Newcastle.
A few team spots remain, so get in quick!
