Sanbah Cadet Cup
The 2012 Sanbah Cadet Cup will again be the one of the richest Cadet Cups ever presented at Newcastle's annual surfing festival - Surfest, Newcastle Australia.
Rhys Smith - a former winner of the Cadet Cup and now owner/operator of the Sanbah surf shop at The Junction - has agreed to sponsor the event to the tune of $2000.
Rhys reckons it is a pleasure to be sponsoring the event and having the opportunity to contribute to surfing's junior level.
"Giving the young surfers a cash incentive, along with the prestige of winning a long-standing event as part of Surfest, will help ensure a stellar field of entries," he said.
"That's good for surfing, it's good for Surfest and it's good for the young surfers," Mr Smith said.
Surfest organiser Warren Smith says the two grand prize money will be evenly split between the two cadet divisions of 14 years-and-under and 16 years-and-under.
Mr Smith says the events have a terrific pedigree of past winners.
"Some of the former champions of this event have made an impact on local, regional, national and international surfing.
"Past winners include Adrian Buchan, Benn Dunn, Laurie Towner, and Owen Wright , as well as one of Newcastle's most outstanding surfing prospects in recent years, 18-year-old goofy footer Ryan Callinan," Mr Smith said.
